ABOUT THE ARTIST

Over 200 striking reproductions of Mack’s paintings grace this fine collection.  Subjects include:  Colorado, California, New Mexico, Wyoming, South Carolina, Scotland and England.  The book also includes written contributions from James H. Pickering, Pat McKee, and Brian C. Mack.

Karol Mack has enjoyed a life long artistic involvement with the spectacular scenery of the American West.  Raised in the farming-ranching community of Brush, Colorado, Mack comes from a family that arrived in that state when it was still a territory.  Her aunt, a gifted teacher, recognized the Karol’s early talent and brought her to paint in Rocky Mountain National Park often.  Today Mack works from a studio in Estes Park, and from another near Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Mack’s visions of towering peaks display great beauty, but they also convey that more elusive aesthetic factor, the sublime.  The sublime aspect of nature is found in places that fill us with wonder through their immensity, and in the American West these often include peaks and ranges, prairies and deserts, and even the brilliant night sky.  While natural beauty usually evokes joy, sublime places engender a mood that encourages viewers to reflect upon nature’s mystery, and upon how our relatively small lives fit within it.

Karol is a Signature Member of the Oil Painters of America (O.P.A.), a Founding Member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painter (R.M.P.A.P.) and a Fellow of the American Artists Professional League.
